I love the relationship between Michelle and Precious, including her relationship with the children at the Youth center. I enjoyed reading how Michelle and Robert survived their difficult childhood and didn't let that stop them from being successful. It is a good read. Secrets, Lies, and Love

What a treat this story is! I fell in love instantly with Michelle, a woman who has worked hard to break away from her impoverished past, only to have everything taken away by the selfish acts of another. Even though she arrives as a nanny at the home of Dr. Erik LaCrosse with nothing but the clothes on her back, her spirit is unbreakable. I lusted after tortured hero Erik right along with Michelle, and was completely charmed by Erik's motherless daughter Precious. The chemistry between Michelle and Erik is palpable. In fact, it's so undeniable that he marries her secretly so they can finally give in to the genuine feelings between them in a way that is morally acceptable to both. Before they can reveal their marriage, secrets each of them has been keeping drive them apart. I wanted to stand up and cheer when they finally reconciled. The sex and sensuality scenes are smokin' hot, yet it is the love between these two that the reader will feel most deeply. All the plot threads were wrapped up beautifully at the end, and I felt completely satisfied, yet impatient for the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book.

So glad this so called book was free. I did read it to the bitter end and the end was truly a bitter pill. I guess I should have paid more attention to the title. "The Doctor's Secret Bride". Dr. Erik La Crosse needs a nanny for his daughter Precious since his wife died. Michelle Carter shows up at Erik's house as what could have been a wonderfully strong, intelligent black woman character. She is educated, gives back to the community and I liked her background. She had some hard knocks with losing a good job then her father betraying her but she was determined to get back on her feet write her book and continue to give back to the community center in the inner city neighborhood she grew up in. But no. Michelle is degraded on so many levels by Erik La Crosse that I can't fathom how she accepted this behavior. Erik is a gynecologist. With a crazy sex drive. This scares me in a gynecologist. I did not like his character at all and he never got better. I viewed him as a user, a manipulator, as an insensitive lover who did not respect Michelle at all. Here is an example of complete disrespect and inappropriate sexual behavior which came in many forms in this book but this one really disturbed me. *SPOILER* Erik takes Michelle to visit his family (side story). He takes her into his bedroom and Michelle wants to have sex and so does he. Erik suddenly pushes Michelle away and tells her how much he respects her and can't have sex with any woman who isn't his wife. He very sweetly coaxes Michelle into just taking a nap with him on the bed. Later they wake up and he takes her to a fabulous restaurant and they have a nice dinner. Their very first date. After dinner, in the parking, lot Erik is suddenly overcome with lust when Michelle asks him if he is her man. Erik shoves Michelle up against the car, and uses her like a prostitute in public. That is not respectful. This scene made me feel horrible for Michelle. Erik thought this was the way to show Michelle he was "her man". This scene just did not make sense and I almost put the book down because of it.
The dialogue was completely unbelievable and unrealistic. The sex scenes were full of strange positions, street sex talk from a supposedly cultured man, and very unloving behavior. *Spoiler* Erik uses Michelle roughly in the shower after a long night of sex. Erik is cruel, demeaning and frankly abusive. Erik treats Michelle like dirt and gets her to secretly marry him so he can have sex with her. He as some weird hang up about that from his dead wife Cassie. The story of Cassie, the story of Michelle's father and the story of Erik's own birth and family dynamic are all just so screwed up and unbelievable they render this book a HOT MESS. The story of Cassie would have stood on it's own and carried the whole book. The rest was just too much. The only relationship I liked was Michelle's relationship with Precious. What is sad is the bones of a really good story were there. They were just overshadowed by too many side stories.

I tried to find something in the book that could make me think it was worth more than I paid for it - it was a free copy. I really did.
The plot was so improbable that it it wasn't even bad fantasy. The dialog was so unrealistic that it became laughable. And when a sex scene presents medically questionable details, I wonder why Amazon even considered putting it on their site.
Let's start with the worst. A female author should be the first to know that the penis doesn't penetrate a cervix during sex- especially a penis described as large! Of course it didn't improve the steaminess of the sex scene either. If "a thrust of ownership took him into her womb" it was anything but "ultimate possession." It was "assault" and by a gynecologist no less??? A marginally astute editor should have caught this. A good author should not have written it.
The dialog was consistent. It was consistently unlike anything normal people would say. It involved sentences that were wooden at best and made me wonder whether the use of cardboard characters was a secret joke on the readers.
But I shouldn't forget the plot! It was so contrived and amateurish that I found myself longing for a bad scene just to make it more plausible.
I read the book. I resisted the temptation to toss it after the first few chapters; I hoped the author's writing might improve as the story progressed. One good chapter might have helped! It never got better. The book did teach me one thing: never read another book written by this author- even if the book is free.
A good editor might have improved this book. A good editor would never have wasted the effort.
