Pretty Good

Some of the tracks were more placeholders than informative and the book was pretty slim so I don't know that it merits five stars but I did learn a lot from the CD though. I needed to play a Scottish character for an acting role and bought this set. I was able to pick up the key sounds to be believable by listening and speaking along with the CD while driving places in about a month's time of infrequent practice. After listening to the CD's exercises I'd turn it off and practice improving with the sounds by reading street signs as they went by in the car. After continued practice improving around town I have the accent down so well now that I even fool some people from Europe!

Very Helpful Tool

Yes the materials are small in size, but it is concentrated with the tools needed. The author is thorough and presents the material very clearly in an IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) format along with audio examples, so the desired sounds and how to make them are very clear. Of course you have to do the work to practice and to apply the rules of pronunciation to your own text, which any actor would expect, but there are plenty of examples both aurally, and written. Very clear, definitive, and helpful.

Die durch die hohen Treibstoffpreise von heute auf morgen leer gefegten Autobahnen verdeutlichten sehr drastisch, dass ohne eine effizientere Nutzung selbiger Rohstoffe, zuk�nftige Generationen wohl einen Gro�teil ihrer individuellen Mobilit�t, aber vor allem auch ihres individuellen Wohlstands einb��en w�rden. Und diese Erkenntnis beschr�nkte sich nicht nur auf das �l und der damit verbundenen Mobilit�t. Umweltsch�tzer und -aktivisten quasi die Gr�nen der ersten Stunde wurden vor diesen Ereignissen bez�glich ihrer Ideen, die vorhandenen Ressourcen sparsam zu verwenden, Recycling zu betreiben und generell Energie aus anderen Rohstoffen, denn aus �l zu beziehen (und auch nicht aus der Atomenergie ), sprich mit den vorhandenen Mitteln nachhaltig umzugehen, bis dahin im besten Fall mit einem L�cheln belohnt. Dies �nderte sich ab diesem Zeitpunkt drastisch. Ihre Vorschl�ge fanden in der Bev�lkerung immer mehr Anklang und verloren auch den Charakter der Idee des linken Aktivisten . Es war chic geworden gr�n zu denken, nachhaltig zu denken, an die Bed�rfnisse der zuk�nftigen Generationen zu denken.[...] Und schlie�lich entdeckten auch die Unternehmer und Wirtschaftstreibenden nachhaltiges Denken f�r sich und ihre Unternehmen. Ohne dabei einigen Individualisten und Idealisten der Gilde der Unternehmer ihre Vorreiterrolle streitig machen, oder gar ihren guten Willen in Frage stellen zu wollen, erkannte man, dass damit wirtschaftlich gesehen auf mehreren Ebenen Geld entweder einzusparen oder zu verdienen war. Beispielsweise wurde einerseits die Neuanschaffung �konomisch und �kologisch sparsamer arbeitender Maschinen seitens der Regierungen finanziell unterst�tzt und etwa durch g�nstige Kredite verst�rkt schmackhaft gemacht.

Best Spanish book ever

As a former Spanish teacher in public schools, I used Spanish for Mastery 3 back in the late 80's and early 90's. I found it to be a book that is truly based on a proficiency approach to teaching language, with its heavy emphasis on vocabulary and speaking situations. Even though the book went out of adoption in the mid-90's in Texas, I continued to use it often as supplementary material throughout the end of my career in 2009, and now I use it for my homeschool and adult classes that I teach. The Valettes and Teresa Carrera-Hanley hit the nail on the head with this book of practical situational usage, great vocabulary and easy to teach grammar, which can be included or not, as the teacher wishes. The book also includes literary selections as well as 'escenas de la vida', short stories about daily life, that are comical and entertaining to read. As I said, this is the best Spanish 3 book ever written!

A good Spanish course.

I love the Spanish for Mastery textbooks. They are sometimes outdated. Who still needs to learn how to say "electric typewriter" or ask if you can type? Nonetheless, these books teach Spanish in a progressive, logical way. I understand that Rosetta Stone is all the rage, but I'm more comfortable with a wade-into-the-shallow-end-of-the-pool than a jump-into-the-middle learning format. I'd rather teach using present tense conjugations at first and later adding past tenses.

This is a must for daily OR use!

I have looked at 10 different reverence pocket notebooks for the OR and this is the one! I love it and so do almost all of my classmates. Most CRNAs that I am with look at it and say "I need one of these". It is quick and easy to use. Has metal wrings so you can add pages and cards as needed. Great little book!

There are a number of well written "how-to" business start-up books on the market. Building A Profitable Business does a very nice job of being detailed and thorough while retaining ease of comprehension. I use it as a text for high school age students in a youth entrepreneurship education program. Students report it to be easy to follow and informative. The material is easily adaptable for people of differing levels of background and experience. It is useful tool to employ if one is interested in the nuts and bolts (and beyond) of starting a business. The book includes forms and additional resource information which makes it a recommended volume for the beginner and intermediate level business "wanna be". As a business plan forces an individual to think about their business dream in an organized manner, this book takes one on a logic-based tour of issues to be addressed. It provides valuable information in a "user friendly" manner. The section on Personnel, as example, includes a sample help-wanted ad and a list of illegal questions to avoid in the applicant interview process. The section also includes sample forms which would be very useful to the entreprenuer who is considering making their first hire. Likewise, the Marketing section includes numerous useful tips and strategies. And the Finance section makes a subject that is uncomfortable for some a digestible tutelage. In his investigations into the phenomenon of Bible-belief, he realized that New Testament Christianity is history's most successful psychological manipulation. Unraveling the psychological devices around which the New Testament was built, Cohen's book illustrates in great detail how these ploys function.

Cohen sees much harm arising from the huge explosion of the Christian Right during the last two decades. He demonstrates how the indoctrination received in these churches undermines the mental health of individuals, causing widespread suffering, due to the vistims' reluctance to speak out. He also shows how this indoctrination makes bible-believers into unwitting supporters of far-right political causes they would otherwise reject.

Beginning in 1984, Cohen conducted a videotape monitoring of Pat Robertson. In 1987, he joined forces with Gerard Thomas Straub (a former producer of the 700 Club and author of Salvation for Sale) to expose Robertson's extremist tendencies.

Cohen made important behind-the-scenes contributions to stories about Robertson aired on NBC News with Tom Brokaw and West 57th Street, and to two front-page stories in the New York Times. In the course of his investigation, Cohen made numerous radio and television appearances. The final chapter in The Mind of the Bible-Believer chronicles that effort.

Good Insight

This book offers an insightful analysis of the mind-control devices inherent in a literal approach to the Bible. As someone who once subscribed to that mindset, I found Cohen's book to be very helpful in understanding my experience and the reactions of my close friends who still subscribe to it. I don't really buy Cohen's assertion that the writers of the Bible designed it to be potent as a mind-control weapon intentionally (possibly, but I imagine that it evolved on its own following the laws of nature -- that which was potent enough to attract followers survived while that which was not was lost), but it was helpful to me to explore what is attractive and what is ultimately flawed about that approach to life. As someone who is already familiar with the Bible, I found his in-depth analysis of Bible verses and their effect on people's lives to be a little slow, but I suppose it would be very helpful for someone who has not been exposed to christian fundamentalism before. I found his explanation that the belief system creates the very problems it promises to solve to be a delightful paradox that rings true. I recommend this book and suggest that anyone who wants to know what's up with Christian fundamentalism flip to the end where he describes the devices Christianity uses one by one.

Scary, scary, scary stuff

I had been an exchristian for a couple of months before readingthis. Even so, while reading it I felt like something bad was behind me - I had to turn around in my chair and look to reassure myself that there wasn't. I was shocked to find the imaginary boogeymen of Christianity rooted so deeply in my own mind.
We all know that there are Christian cults out there that practise mind control and brainwashing. This book exposes the fact that this is the norm for NT christianity, not the exception. The new testament is mind-control propaganda, propaganda that held all the minds of Europe in its grip for a millennium and a half.
It exposes the newspeak of christianity. The doublethink, the blackwhite, the slippery concepts and words. It explains why, as a christian, it's possible to read a passage of scripture over and over and still feel like you don't that makes it so difficult for a christian to reason about their faith. The dreadful fear at the bottom of christianity.
It exposes the poverty of Christian "love", and "joy". It demonstrates the equivocal definitions of 'truth' and 'freedom' that make a lie of "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make in faith, and how it is that faith is the opposite of sin. And in so doing, suddenly makes sense of every bible verse, every book, and every sermon on the topic that I have ever read or heard.
Get this, and get George Orwell's "1984" if you don't already have it. But if you are a recent exchristian, don't read it late at night like I did.

Most incredible book about the dangers of Fundamentalism

Cohen's book was so powerful, I had to read it more than once. Cohen uses his skills as a psychologist to critically examine the Scriptures, as well as the behaviors exhibited by Fundamentalist adherents. Finally, because of this book, I realized that I had indeed been emotionally damaged because of Fundamentalist Christianity. Everyone should read this book!

In January of 1964, she and Robert F. Kennedy approved a planned oral-history project that would capture their first-hand accounts of the late President as well as the recollections of those closest to him throughout his extraordinary political career. Recomiendo NO comprar este libro (por lo menos en su versi�n en espa�ol)

No recomiendo comprar este libro ya que no aporta realmente demasiada informaci�n sobre los a�os de la administraci�n Kennedy. Las opiniones de Jackie que se presentan en este libro demuestran su desd�n y desprecio por la mayor�a de la gente (m�s que nada funcionarios del gobierno y otros mandatarios) que conoci� durante los a�os de la Casa Blanca. Lamentablemente tampoco aporta informaci�n pol�ticamente relevante ya que como ella misma comenta, no conversaba sobre las cuestiones pol�ticas con el presidente por lo tanto la publicaci�n de estas grabaciones m�s que contribuir a la historia oral de la Administraci�n, contribuye a dejarnos ver un poco m�s de la personalidad de Jackie, no involucrada emocionalmente con las pol�ticas del gobierno o las ideas del Presidente.
La edici�n en espa�ol es REALMENTE vergonzosa, la traducci�n es muy mala y poco confiable, al leer muchos p�rrafos uno se da cuenta de que la traducci�n est� siendo literal y las frases pierden sentido.
Presentar este libro como las "conversaciones hist�ricas sobre la vida con JFK" es crear demasiadas expectativas que el libro no cumple, para los seguidores de la bibliograf�a sobre los kennedy: un enga�o.

Good book, however Amazon shipped it with evident water damage

I bought this book for my wife. She's enjoying it, and I would rate it higher than 3 stars... however, incredibly when I opened the package (in perfect shape) I found the book to be damaged by water. The cover and more than half of the pages had wrinkles as if it was wet and then let dry. I don't understand how Amazon ships a book in this condition. I updated the photo on the Packaging Rating section, as I can't show it here.
