About the Author
Author Mike Cardiff and illustrator Pat Cardiff are identical twins. Mike developed his early blacksmithing technique working with Harry Evans and Dave Wooters at the Tidewater Foundry in Easton, Maryland. He then studied under Ken Schwarz, whom he credits with truly starting him on his career in blacksmithing. Mike later worked for several years in Colonial Williamsburg as a production smith. Working within the Society for Creative Anachronism, Mike found an ideal environment for expanding his skills while providing an appreciative audience with accurate reproductions of medieval period tools, weapons, and utensils. His Damascus steel swords and knives are especially sought after by discerning blade collectors and edged weapon enthusiasts.



When he's not painting landscapes or providing cover paintings and illustrations for books, artist Pat is usually designing, carving, and throwing boomerangs. Pat's boomerangs are crafted to resemble a wide variety of subject matter, with a strong emphasis on accurately portrayed wildlife. His boomerangs have been featured in galleries across the nation and are used in competition by throwers in the United States and abroad.

Excellent For The Beginning Smith

Clearly and concisely written with simple, clean illustrations. It covers shop safety, setting up a smithy, selecting tools and equipment, troubleshooting errors, and concludes with a section of exercises on making your own tools and household items--small hammers, tongs, chisels, punches, hooks and holders. When done with the exercises, one will have a very good grasp of the basics of metal shaping.

The Book of Blacksmith

It is OK, but it is to general. Most of the info can be accessed for free on the internet.
Examples: 1) good - defines what each type of process is. Bad: no material (steel) chart with recommended temperatures for various processes. 2) good: mentioned that the temp of the material can be "read" by the color of the material at any given time, bad: no color pictures to exemplifies, just a description of the color.....

I would recommended for beginners, to get the basic info in one place, but as soon as you past that stage, is basically useless.
I would not recommended it to use if you actual want to start doing blacksmithing.

Amazing tome from an excellent artist

I studied with the author for many years. This monograph is all that one needs in order to get started in blacksmithing. I use this book as a companion in my own smithing classes. The illustrations are very clear and the writing is to the point. I highly recommend this book to all. The author is a master of his craft and also a selfless teacher.

Please don't let the worst editing job ever scare you away from this book!

This is a gripping continuation of the Belgariad story. I have read this book in print more times than I can actually remember. The horrible and worse - repetitive - editing errors in this ebook are shameful and not present in the print version. Amazon please locate all gazillion instances of the word "Throe" and rightfully replace it with "thine ". Then spellcheck at least 2 or 3 more times. The print version also ends further along than this abruptly ended e-version.

I hope that it doesn't have to end. These books are some of the best I have read in so long that I can re-read them anytime I feel the urge, and believe me, I read them over and over again. David Eddings is such a great writer that I would like to see him continue writing for a long time.

THE LATEST GUIDELINES

An appreciation by Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green Chambers

Is it possible to assess another’s pain? And can a price be put on that pain, or suffering, or loss of amenity by way of compensation? Having perplexed generations of judges in particular, the answers to these questions are obviously going to be qualified or guarded. Help, however, is fortunately to hand in this long-established and highly regarded publication from the Judicial College via the Oxford University Press.

From its first edition in 1992 to this latest thirteenth edition, the aim of this book is to provide judges and practitioners with authoritative and reliable guidelines on fair and equitable compensation for virtually the full spectrum of personal injuries. This it has done -- and this it continues to do.

As the Chairman of the editorial committee presiding over this new edition, Mr Justice Longstaff notes in the introduction that ‘the approach since the first edition of these Guidelines … has been to reflect and categorise the awards (that) courts were actually making as to where the members of the committee felt they ought to be.’

This, he adds ‘remains the prerogative of the courts.’ He therefore urges readers to remember that ‘this is a book of guidelines, not of tramlines.’ The result nonetheless, is the presentation within a clear, precise format, of a framework by which damages in personal injury cases can be logically assessed based primarily on previous judgments, although it is pointed out that no two cases can ever be alike.

The figures updated for this new edition reflect the awards made by the courts in 2013, plus increases that reflect the pace of inflation since then, at a rate of 3.4%, to include the decisions of the higher courts on quantum. These figures incorporate the 10% uplift in general damages recommended by Sir Rupert Jackson and are presented in emboldened type. The “pre-uplift” figures, by way of comparison, are listed in plain text.

There is a considerable amount of new material in this new edition. For example, head injuries, as distinct from brain injuries, are discussed in chapter three and there is increased emphasis on such areas as minor injuries, ectopic pregnancy and mental anguish.

As all judges involved in hearing personal injury cases will automatically receive a copy of this book, it would seem obvious that no personal injury lawyer should be without it. Certainly for anyone professionally involved in calculating quantum, the purchase of this slim and succinct volume should be considered a necessity.

About the Author

Michael Sullivan, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at Chicago State University, received a Ph.D. in mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Mike taught at Chicago State for 35 years before recently retiring. He is a native of Chicago’s South Side and divides his time between Oak Lawn, Illinois, and Naples, Florida.

Mike is a member of the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America. He is a past president of the Text and Academic Authors Association and is currently Treasurer of its Foundation. He is a member of the TAA Council of Fellows, and was awarded the TAA Mike Keedy award in 1997 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. In addition, he represents TAA on the Authors Coalition of America.

Mike has been writing textbooks for more than 35 years and currently has 15 books in print, 12 with Pearson Education. When not writing, he enjoys tennis, golf, gardening, and travel.

Mike has four children: Kathleen teaches college mathematics; Michael III teaches college mathematics and is his co-author on two precalculus series; Dan works in publishing; and Colleen teaches middle school and secondary school mathematics. Twelve grandchildren round out the family.

Mike Sullivan III is a professor of mathematics at Joliet Junior College. He holds graduate degrees from DePaul University in both mathematics and economics. Mike is an author or co-author on more than 20 books, including a statistics book and a developmental mathematics series. Mike is the father of three children and an avid golfer, who tries to spend as much of his limited free time as possible on the golf course.

Algebra and Trigonometry Enhanced with Graphing Utilities.(5th Edition) by Michael Sullivan is as good a book on the subject as I've used since my first year of college and learned some of this material using older methods of the Wrapping principle in my studies of Trig. A good delivery and the Graphing Utility on the Computer makes the study more enjoyable, but you still need to know how to do it if you are to try to show another student what the graphing function is.

It came pretty fast. Regardless of the edition, the material is always the same. I don't get graded for homework, so even if the professor says we can't use other editions or tittles, i'm just going to use it anyway. LOL... as if the professor is going to check our book editions

Giant Book!

I come to find out that this book is actually for two math classes at my university. I only need one of the classes, therefore half of this book is a complete waste to me. The author should consider two books, because this was an EXPENSIVE book and when I sell it back, it's going to worth nothing.

This mantra is really powerful! I tried chanting Goddess K-Ma mantra in bed and it gave me so much energy that I did not have a wink of sleep at all, lol.
And I tried the other mantra for the whole day until I came home from work and was so tired and I felt a presence! She visited me and gave me energy! All I can say is awesome!

There are two ways of worshiping her rat hand and left hand
With mantra and devotion one worship her do prayers in this age she is the only most powerful shakti energy in this whole universe out side she looks more ferocious but from her heart this great mother is the most loving and giving boons to her children
The whole creation is by her and at the time of end everything merge in to her her creative energy and her destroying energy is amazing all powerful
I have been doing her mantra since I was 7 years old her mantra is very sweet very powerful most energetic then any other and there is always grace peace and joy emerging from repeating her great mantra
